The Greater Utah BSD User Group is pleased to announce the first annual BSD Installfest, sponsored by ArosNet, Utah's premier Internet Service Provider.
We are fortunate to have Vérité, Inc. provide the location and crucial bandwidth for the event!
Bring your boxen and we will provide installation and technical assistance for the best platforms in the world!
As our special guest, joining us all the way from Ottawa, Canada, is Dan Langille.
Dan is a long-standing member of the BSD community and founder of FreeBSD Diary, FreshPorts, BSDCan, and is also a founding member of the BSD Certification Group.
Dan had graciously offered to give a talk about Bacula: THE backup solution. The session is scheduled for 3:30pm to 4:00pm (with time for questions immeadiately after).
We will have ISO images of the 4 most popular BSD flavors:
OpenBSD fans, be sure to bring your Humppa! We will have two at the event already! ;-)
We will also have some images for those interested in running BSD as a desktop:
Live CD's will also be available for those interested:
Please let us know ahead of time if you are interested in other platforms and we will try to have a technical resource available.
We need to have an idea of how many attendees we will have and architectures you are interested in, so sign up early! Please send email to installfest@gubug.org with a general idea of what you would like to install and the type of hardware you are bringing. Note that the BSDs are platform-independent, and ports for some very exotic hardware is available!
Here are some simple guidelines that you can follow to enhance the flow of meetings and make them more enjoyable for everyone involved.
GUBUG exists mainly electronically, in that our efforts are concentrated more on our SIGs and projects than meetings. However, if a topic is of significant interest to warrant a presentation, a meeting will be scheduled for the second Saturday of the month at 2:00pm. Please bear in mind that even on Saturday, many of our attendees are on strict schedules. Therefore, it is very important that meetings conclude promptly at 4:00pm.
Topics are usually directed at an audience with a working knowledge of Unix and Unix-like operating systems. Inexperienced users are more than welcome to attend, but such users deserve fair warning that they may find the material being discussed to be typically of an advanced nature.
To accommodate new users, GUBUG makes two facilities available. SIGPR specializes in promoting and in providing assistance for BSD. However, before seeking their assistance, please be aware that two of BSD's greatest strengths lie in providing extremely well-written documentation and in the resources provided by the global community. As a general rule, it is advisable to research first, then ask questions. By doing so, you are helping us to help you.
Additionally, SIGPR hosts an annual installfest. If you're new to BSD and have questions or need assistance with installation, this would be the best time to ask for help. You are encouraged to bring computers and note-taking materials to those events.
Meeting announcements will be given with as much advance notice as possible on the mailing list.
If you are interested in presenting, your assistance would be very much appreciated and you will find that the following calendar is extremely flexible. Please contact the meeting coordinators to make arrangements.
