GUBUG: Meetings

October 8–10, 2009: The Third Annual Utah Open Source Convention '09

GUBUG has been invited to participate at the UTOSC '09! A booth has been secured and GUBUG representatives will be on-site for the duration of the event to answer questions about the BSD family of operating systems and its derivatives.

Early bird registration has expired, but there is still time to sign up! Please click here to do so.

A GUBUG meeting will be held at 12:30pm on October 8. The tentative topic for this meeting is "What's New in FreeBSD." We will also have some free (as in free) BSD goodies to give away at this meeting, so be sure to come!

While a registration and fee are required to attend the rest of the conference, admission to this meeting is free for all GUBUG members.

Immediately following the GUBUG meeting at 1:45pm, a unique opportunity to take the BSDA Certification Exam will be offered. Details about this event are available at the UTOSC '09 Web site. Exam participants must register for a BSDCG ID by clicking here.

The BSDA is currently the certification for BSD administration. Do not miss this opportunity to become BSD certified!

This conference will definitely be a blast. There are some very worthy presentations, keynotes, workshops, and Birds of a Feather sessions scheduled.

Hope to see you all there!

Location

GUBUG is currently seeking a facility in which to hold regular meetings. If you know of one that is available, please contact the meeting coordinators with the details.

Generalized Meeting Information

Topics are usually directed at an audience with a working knowledge of Unix and Unix-like operating systems. Inexperienced users are more than welcome to attend, but such users deserve fair warning that they may find the material being discussed to be typically of a highly technical nature.

We try to be as accomodating to new users as possible but more often than not, our meetings are typically on a very strict schedule. In the interest of time, we would ask that you take some time to research topics beforehand and come prepared with a concise list of brief questions. If questions arise during the presentation, please write them down and ask them during the Q&A session following or on the mailing list. By doing so, you are helping us to help as many participants as possible. Two of BSD's greatest strengths lie in providing extremely well-written documentation and in the resources provided by the global community.

Additionally, we are trying to make it a point to host an annual installfest. If you're after some one-on-one assistance with installation or getting a feel for your flavor of choice, this would be the best time to ask for help. You are encouraged to bring computers and note-taking materials to those events.

Meeting announcements will be given with as much advance notice as possible on the mailing list.
