GUBUG: Resources
Advocacy
- Dru Lavigne is a regular contributor on the GUBUG mailing list. Dru is perhaps best known for her regular contributions to the O'Reilly Network as well as for authoring the excellent book, BSD Hacks. She has recently published a collection of 11 articles written by users who have had very positive experiences using BSD as a flyer entitled BSD Success Stories. She is currently collecting resources useful to Open Source advocates. To see the current resources or to add another resource, please visit The Open Source Advocate.
History
- Kirk McKusick contributed an insightful essay on the history of the early BSDs to the book Open Sources.
- Dennis M. Ritchie, one of the authors of the original AT&T distribution of Unix, hosts a collection of court documents and related information from the USL vs. BSDi lawsuit here. Gilbert Fernandes offers a few additional links on the subject.
- The first BSD-based platform to be ported to Intel hardware was 386BSD, from which NetBSD and FreeBSD forked. Attempts to describe what transpired in the early years of BSD are offered in two complementary perspectives.
- An important read is this interview, which provides some insight into some of the features to be found in the BSDs, but more importantly shows how collaboration works between the projects and what to expect in BSD's future.
Multimedia
- A collection of GUBUG logos in .PNG (for portability) as well as .XCF (for editing with The GIMP) format is located here. Like most of the content on this site, they are available under a BSD license but we would appreciate it if you kept modifications in the bounds of good taste (for some definition of
good taste
). ;-)
